The star of the show at any Korean BBQ is the meat. You’ll need a variety of meats like Bulgogi (marinated beef), Samgyeopsal (pork belly), and Galbi (short ribs). You can also include some non-meat options like vegetables, mushrooms, and tofu. Don’t forget the dipping sauces—ssamjang (a thick paste made from miso, gochujang, and garlic) is a must!
For an authentic Korean BBQ experience, a tabletop grill is ideal. If you don’t have one, a portable electric grill works well too. Make sure your grill is preheated before you start cooking the meat to ensure it cooks evenly.
In Korean BBQ, the meat is complemented by a variety of side dishes called banchan. These can include Kimchi, pickled radish, sautéed vegetables, and even small portions of rice. Prepare at least 4-5 banchan to provide variety and enhance the meal.
Now, it’s time to start grilling! Place the meat on the grill and cook it to your liking. Once it’s cooked, you can either wrap the meat in lettuce leaves with some rice, dipping sauce, and banchan, or simply enjoy it on its own. The fun part of Korean BBQ is sharing the food and enjoying it together!
